The Runnymede Project

'Re-futuring' the Chicken Farm

A creative visioning workshop was held on 13 June 2009 to consider the future use and regional significance of the recently acquired former chicken farm next to Indigiscapes Environmental Education Centre in Capalaba.

Sustainability design guru, Professor Tony Fry, challenged the group to consider the Redlands beyond their lifetimes and to create an 'exemplary example' of sustainable design that responds to global trends such as climate change.

The community’s vision of the Runnymede Project based on the workshop is for a creative, sustainable, cultural community hub for environmental / sustainability education and business with a connection to Indigiscapes and the indigenous and agricultural heritage of the Redlands.

From this initial visioning workshop, an Advisory Group was formed and a series of children’s art workshops were completed. Local school children were engaged through the after school / vacation care program with the objective to generate ideas and suggestions as to how they would like to use the site and to create artworks to represent their ideas.

An outstanding 65 artworks were created and the key ideas that emerged for the sites future centred on recreation, animal welfare, and education and recycling.

A youth event on the site is proposed for early 2010, facilitated by a specialist team of consultants and will engage the young people in a creative learning and problem solving forum presentation. The team will challenge the group of young people to think in a collaborative way and to design their future and how they see the future of the project.
